Research areas
Research at ARCH spans the humanistic study of computing and advanced technologies, the use of computational methods in humanities research, and humanities-based contributions to interdisciplinary scholarship. We bring interpretation, critique, creative practice, philosophical rigor, and social and historical analysis to questions of AI ethics, safety, agency, social impact, theories of meaning, theories of consciousness, and theories of reasoning; to the study of games, virtual worlds, simulations, and digital twins; and to research on embodiment, presence, perception, narrative, play, and social interaction in computationally immersive environments from browsers to full-body systems, prosthetics, and robotics.
